The learning objectives of the course: 

  1. To introduce fellows to basic principles, study designs, and laboratory methodology employed in Patient Oriented Research.

  2. To know about and be able to effectively use resources to obtain background information for developing a research project.

  3. To be able to interpret fundamental statistical tests and analyses in published research reports.

  4. To develop linkages with research mentors within their own divisions and across disciplines in the Department of Medicine and within the Health Science Center.

  5. To know the ethical principles underlying the conduct of research.

  6. To develop effective skills for communicating research results.
