Who was Frederic C. Bartter?
Frederic C. Bartter was one of clinical science's most imaginative investigators and charismatic personalities. He devoted a major portion of his career to investigating the interrelation between the kidney and various endocrine systems and contributed to diverse aspects of clinical science. Dr. Bartter was responsible for the description of four clinical syndromes:
Congenital adrenal hyperplasia (1952) Syndrome of inappropriate ADH secretion (Schwartz and Bartter, 1956) Bartter's Syndrome (1960) Syndrome of phosphate depletion (Lotz-Bartter, 1962). Throughout his lifelong devotion to unraveling the mysteries of science, Dr. Bartter was a member of numerous professional and scientific societies and received numerous awards, including admission to the National Academy of Sciences in 1979, an honor almost unheard of for a clinical researcher. After Dr. Bartter's death in 1983, the GCRC was named the Frederic C. Bartter GCRC in his memory.
