How much does it cost to use the GCRC?
Patients eligible for admission to the GCRC are classified as "A", "B", "C" or "D" patients. "A" patients are patients, including non-veterans, who are admitted strictly for research purposes. Hospitalization costs for category A patients are paid for by the NIH grant. "B" patients are those who are veterans, will receive medical benefit and whose costs will not be billed to the grant. "C" patients are veterans who are admitted to the SDTU for special diagnostic tests which are not a part of an ongoing research protocol. "D" patients are admitted on industry-initiated protocols only. All expenses for category "D" patients are paid by the industry sponsor. These costs must be negotiated with the GCRC coordinator prior to protocol submission. For additional information, please contact Susan Stappenbeck by email or phone 567-4629.
If your study is currently listed as category "D" and is studying a drug listed on the Orphan Product Designation, you need to read the Modified Classification for Rare Disease Research.
